This guy is the Elf Dragon Prince from Michael Kontraros Collectibles. He's a beautifully crafted 90mm resin model, complete with scenic base. Of course, he has a price that reflects how awesome he is.
Before you open the box, you get hints of the detail you will find inside. It's the same style of box that several of the high end resin sellers use (such as Nocturna Models) but a fair bit larger to comfortably fit the big guy in.
Upon opening up the box, you are met with an art card and a layer of black foam.
Amazingly, for such a big miniature, there are only 7 pieces - Base, Dragon, Elf, Crown, Sword Blades and a rosette.
Starting with the base. This is a hefty piece of kit, and detailed on both sides. The very bottom of it is flat, to attach to a plinth or even a 40-50mm base for some extra stability. However, the rest of it is fully textured to allow for painting all over.
The top side of the base is tiled with an impressive pattern, and includes a hollow to position the dragon and two small pins to position the elf.
The dragon itself is a relatively small creature, only a baby really. It has one leg already attached to the base and thanks to the markings on the bottom of it that match the markings on the tiles, it is almost a perfect fit onto the base.
Next we have the content of the little bag of sprues. The sword blades look like perfect casts, but also look rather flimsy without a defined start point. There also doesn't appear to be an easy way of fixing them to their hilts. The crown is quite small and difficult to get a picture of, but does look rather cool and should fit nicely when added. The rosette type piece fits on his upper chest as a cloak pin.
Now on to the main event - the Elf himself. such a smooth cast and so many little delicate details.
In fact, the sculpt on the face was so good that I managed to get a picture of my camera detecting it as an actual face.
There isn't a lot more I can add, other than pictures of him and his dragon on the base as a set.
I probably wont be able to work up the guts to paint him for another year or so at the very minimum, but he's just far too cool not to share now.
