Greenstuff Textured Bases - Part 2

Last week I showed you six of the textured rollers from Green Stuff World. This week I painted them up.

Blood Angels Special Edition 2016 Marine

Carrying on the Blood Angels theme, I finally got round to painting the 2016 Imperial Space Marine. It's been sat on my shelf, undercoated in red for ages. After a brisk dust off I set to work. This isn't any sort of challenge, that is reserved for the next Blood Angel model I paint.

Blood Angels Contemptor Dreadnought

My favourite Space Marine Chapter of all time, the Blood Angels, have been under the brush once again this week. I am working on a Horus Heresy army at present for a large battle in October. While waiting for the shoulder pads and weapons from Forge World, I decided to paint the Contemptor Dreadnought from Betrayal at Calth to pass the time.

Optimum Prime - A study on priming your models

Priming your model is probably the most important part of painting. When I started over 28 years ago there was no such thing as spray primer, and everything was done with a brush. Nowadays, there are a variety of different manufacturers offering spray primers. This blog is a study of spray primers, and how best to use them.

Paint your Board Games - WWE Superstar Showdown

"And he kicks him in the stomach, then grabs him by the throat. He raises him high in the air, aaaand... CHOKESLAM! Big Show is the winner!"

I'm not ashamed to say it, but I like wrestling. This game was going cheap at my local game shop (by cheap, he sold it to me for cost just to get rid of it.) I was originally going to do an unboxing to appease my mick-taking friends. However they gave me a better idea, and that was to paint the models instead. So here goes - Hit my entrance music!

Stage by Stage Guide to... painting Deathwatch (Left Arm)

Bit of a long winded title this week! I wanted to focus on painting the left arm and shoulder pad on the new Games Workshop Deathwatch Space Marines. I will try to keep it nice and quick and simple. Since this is a GW model, I will use all GW paints.

Age of Sigmar - Slaughterpriest

This week, I decided that I'd get back on with my Khorne Army for Age of Sigmar. This is a project that will see me through until the end of the year. I have had this Slaughterpriest on my WIP bench for a while, and this week seemed like the perfect time to finish it off.

The Five Hour Painting Challenge - Scibor Dwarf

This week, may I introduce to you a new monthly feature: The Five Hour Painting Challenge!

The idea is to paint one model within a 5 hour time limit. I got the idea shortly after painting the Feral Nexus this past week (which took around 4 hours to complete). I recently subscribed to the Model Box mail order service, and was pleasantly surprised by the random selection of models I received. The Model Box I received in July had the Feral Nexus, and the Scibor Miniatures Dwarf Wild Warrior you are about to see.

Feral Nexus, by Icarus Miniatures

This week, instead of churning out even more WIP shots of ongoing projects, I decided to paint a random model I received in my subscription to Model Box. For those of you that don't know what Model Box is - its a monthly subscription, whereby you receive a bunch of models, paints and accessories for the hobby. I took a punt on the one in July and got the model I have painted today.

Book of Nox - Unboxing and Product Review

I attended the UK Games Expo on Saturday 4th June, where upon I stumbled across a small independent stand. I was drawn to the 3D Dungeon Tiles and from there proceeded to have a chat with the games creator, before making a purchase. There were two version on offer - standard and deluxe. The deluxe version is the one I will review today. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to play this game yet, but I am going to rectify that in the not too distant future.

This is my first crack at an Unboxing (or should I say Un-Nox-ing) review. I wanted to add variety to my Sunday slot. Also, you'd better sit down to read this, it's rather long...

It's all just Work, Work, Work (in Progress)

I currently have three projects on the go, and I'd like to share some of my progress. I have taken a back seat to the Stage by Stage Guides this week and concentrated on blocking in base colours on a selection of models. All of the Stage-by-Stage guides I have published so far have been used in some capacity on the ongoing projects I have at present.

Stage-by-Stage Guide to... Painting Skulls.

This week's Stage-by-Stage is my guide to painting skulls.  I like to make my skulls and bones look old and tired, but still retaining a stark highlight.  I haven't gone with Screaming Skull/Ushabti Bone for this, but instead I have used Rakarth Flesh as my base colour, and worked it up to white.

This guide is pretty straightforward, and only uses a small palette of colours, which are shown below.

Stage-by-Stage Guide to... Painting Red Armour

This week, I will be looking at a quick and effective way of painting red, from a red primer. Again, this guide will give you an insight into painting a unit of models in a short space of time, but to a good tabletop standard.

As an added bonus, I'll try to explain my theory behind edge highlighting. Below are the colours I'll be using for this guide. All Games Workshop paints this week!

Painting Leather Stage-by-stage

I've been watching a lot (and I mean a LOT) of Joy of Painting with Bob Ross recently, while painting my Khorne. Those of you that have watched this program will be very familiar with the intro format. With this in mind, I'm going to run the colours along the bottom of the screen so you can paint along.

Painting Human Flesh - Stage-by-Stage

Stage-by-Stage Guide to painting Human Flesh.

This week I wanted to post some stage-by-stage guides for painting flesh.  The tone I wanted to go for is towards the pink-hue, and uses the Army Painter equivalent of old Games Workshop Dwarf Flesh and Elf Flesh.

Age of Sigmar Khorne Army - Part 1.5

The rule of 5.

Unfortunately this week, my time has been limited due to working longer hours. So I wanted to look at batch painting larger units.

The Blood Reavers, as last week's WIP Part 1.

Age of Sigmar Khorne Army WIP - Part 1

I would like to introduce my current large-scale Work in Progress of my Khorne army for Age of Sigmar.

Goretide Age of Sigmar Khorne Army.

I split the AoS box with a friend when it was released, and I intended to only collect and paint those particular models before buying any others. But, like the true hobbyist I am, I bought pretty much every cool model going thereafter, and my plans were squashed!

BMG Joker Crew - Ready for Mayhem!

The Joker Crew pour from the gates of Arkham Asylum. They are ready to hit the streets of Gotham City to cause as much chaos and mayhem as they can before the Bat arrives!

The streets of Gotham will never be the same again.

Batman Miniatures Game Joker Crew WIP

Hello and welcome to my first Work in Progress project.

I bought the BMG Joker Crew models well over a year ago, and started painting them at the time. With the Phoenix Rising Event coming to Cumbria on 25th June, and the addition of a BGM tournament, I thought it best to dig my crew out and finish them off!

Due to a miscast, my Joker's knife was non-existent. But that doesn't stop him stabbing people anyway!

An Introduction from the new guy!

Hello!

My name is Dan, and I recently joined the team.

I have been a hobbyist (old GW term!) for nigh on 30 years. In that time I've collected everything from Space Marines, to Elves, Daemons and modern-era models. Like everyone else, my painting right at the start wasn't anything spectacular. I never primed a model (at 11 years old you have neither the funds or the know-how) and my paint was always really thick. But at that age it was the most awesome paint job ever!
