First Look - Purgatory Salute Releases Unboxed!

A couple of months back, I asked the guys at Purgatory a cheeky question - could I get my Salute order before Salute, so I could put up pretty pictures for people? They said yes, so, despite the best efforts of the postal system, a couple of nice boxes arrived yesterday.

Purgatory have two new models available at Salute - Bobby B, who is a limited Show/Event only model, and Hannibal, who is a standard release. Bobby B will also be available online over event weekends. Both models are resin.

I decided to start with Bobby. As with every Purgatory model, he comes with an art card, playing card, business card and this time, a large sticker instead of a small one.

Bobby himself can be found in a small bag.

He comes in four pieces - main body, head, hand with cigar and base topper, complete with drum.

My favourite two parts of this piece are the cloak and his face. The cloak has many, many ripples, perfect for getting loads of contrast, while the face is just creepy as hell.

The one slight downside, that Hannibal also suffers from, is that while the base topper was designed to be added to a 30mm lipped base (Hannibals is a 40mm base), it's slightly too big to fit!

It looks alright sat on top of the base lip as it is, just a slightly taller base insert, but a quick sand or file down should remove the required millimeter or two to get it to be a smooth fit.

Now, to Hannibal and his elephant. As with Bobby above, he comes with pretty arty stuff.

Hannibal is in a few more pieces, totaling six - Main body, sword, chain hand, elephant head, elephant body and base topper.

I'm slightly regretting painting up Saint Peter in a white suit now, as seeing Hannibal in his artwork in one makes me really want to paint him up the same way, but I also think he might benefit from something a little more extravagant, particularly given that he has a large animal pelt draped over his shoulders and has a dapper little hat on.

It was a little tricky to get a shot of, but the markings on the elephant's mask is really rather cool.

As with Bobby's base, if you want a smooth fit into a lipped base, you'll have to do a little shaving off the edges.

Both models have a few mold lines - Hannibal more than Bobby, due to being a larger piece, but they look to be a relatively easy clean up.

I'm a big fan of the world Purgatory are creating, and the fact that the models all come in named boxes rather than a plastic blister with a photo or something in the front.

If you fancy having a look up close at the range, or finding out about the game mechanics in development, or just finding out more, go talk to the guys at Salute!

They'll have copies of everything, along with (I believe) some prints of the amazing art work that they've had commissioned so far and some goody bags.

For anyone not attending Salute - you'll be able to pick stuff up from the store attached to the Purgatory Facebook Page

Oh, and the painting contest for Keysha is still running, but finishes at the end of April so if you are planning on entering (like me), get a shift on!
